Terrible place to work. I was going to work there and I'm unfortunately had a lot of problems trying to get off to a good start there. As soon as I was in a good place the administrator told me that I couldn't come back because I had missed too much time. I begged and pleaded with her to just give me one more chance to just start off because I had had so much misfortune. She had absolutely no sympathy for me. Also I had death in the family and it seemed like that didn't matter to her. They should practice what they preach and mean what they say

My father lived there for years and was very happy and well taken care of. Beautiful location and facility.

We recently had a tour of this facility, my 82 year old mother and I. At my age, you learn to see through the fog of flattery and realize your first instincts are usually correct. Cleanliness is a big issue for me and when you see a dead rat snuggled under your tire, you should run. Before our tour, though, I did try and find a janitor to clean this poor animal but had no luck. Instead, I noticed a few women who resembled caregivers talking loudly on the phone and using obscenities. Classy. At this point, you may question why we proceeded with the tour. I had to understand why exactly The Redwoods would charge over $4,000 for a one bedroom apartment! The final straw: influenza outbreak. -Jackie

how much is one bedroom? How long is waiting list?

Dwayne Hunn | Aug 25, 2019
The Redwoods - Retirement, Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing | Aug 24, 2021

Dwayne: We have a few different "styles" of One-Bedrooms at The Redwoods, and the rates will depend (in part) on which style of apartment a person chooses, as different services may be included. Roughly speaking, our one-bedrooms are around $5,000 per month, although some are less. Please contact us to find out what services are included in that price. Also, while our waiting list is fairly extensive, that is in part due to the legacy and reputation of The Redwoods. Folks like to get on our waitlist 5, 10, and even 20 years early. So it's not impossible for someone to apply and move in with the year, or even within a few months, depending on what they are looking for and if it's available at that time. Please feel free to reach out to set up a "semi-campus" tour or phone call. Cheers, The Admissions Team

do you have studio apts and what are the rates for rentals for 2 1/2 months

Diane Block | Aug 25, 2018
The Redwoods - Retirement, Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing | Aug 24, 2021

Diane: Maybe you could scroll through to see some of my longer descriptions of what our studio rentals include for their price. Right now, a studio is just under $5,000 per month. In general, folks come to The Redwoods to live permanently - unless they are doing a short-term rehab stay in our Skilled Nursing Facility. So we wouldn't necessarily go through the application process for a two month stay. However, in "non-covid" times, we do have a hotel room available for guests, and then our Skilled Nursing Facility offers shorter stays of 2-3 months.

Studios are a great deal. At about $5,000 per month they include all meals & snacks, weekly housekeeping, and access to a 24/7 Nurse' office. Additional support is available in the form of assisted living, personal wellness coaching, activity escorts, tech tutoring and more.

Is this a memory care facility?

Lois Lim | Aug 24, 2021
The Redwoods - Retirement, Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing | Aug 24, 2021

Hi Lois: The Redwoods does not have a memory care license, although it's something we might consider pursuing in the future. We can recommend a variety of wonderful nearby memory care facilities if you need a referral. Please feel free to reach out to us in Admissions at: 415-383-1600 x223 Best wishes! The Redwoods' Team

Does The Redwoods in Mill Valley allow small portable washers

Paula Beale | Aug 24, 2021
The Redwoods - Retirement, Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing | Aug 24, 2021

A request like that would need to go to our Facilities Director for a definitive answer. However, from experience, the apartments aren't meant to accommodate private washers or dryers. We do have shared laundry facilities throughout the campus, located conveniently near all the apartments.

The "Program Initiation Fee" of $7,500 is paid by all ? new residents?

Paul Taylor | Aug 25, 2019
The Redwoods - Retirement, Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing | Aug 24, 2021

Hi Paul. Yes, the Program Fee is a once, and once-only fee which is good for the lifetime of a residency. The only exception to this fee is when someone is staying in our Skilled Nursing Facility (short or long term), or in our Comfort, Palliative and Hospice Care Center. So even if one starts out in Independent and then transfers later to a higher level of care, they would only pay that Program Fee once. Finally, The Redwoods is known for our programs and campus life. Please feel free to reach out. I'd be happy to send you our full Programs catalogue (over 30 pages listing all the events, classes, performances, transportation, technology, wellness, spiritual, intellectual, political, social activities - and more. It's truly an inspiring and active culture. Warmly, The Admissions Team
