Great trail with spectacular views, wildflowers, and wildlife. The first mile is steep. No joke.

Last day of January 2021 was a perfect weather to hiking up to East Peak of Mt Tamalpais. My hike was 5 miles out & back, and 1,789 feet of elevation gain. This is a moderately to difficult hike of Mount Tamalpais in Marin County, CA. The Tempelpa trailhead has only 4 parking spaces at Fern Canyon/ Summit Ave. The climb is short but has a huge elevation gain during the hike. Yes, it was steep, but really fun, since it has a lot of loose and uneven rocks. But on the way down was hard on the knees and legs. The trail offers an spectacular views of Richmond Bridge, Mount Diablo, Golden Gate Bridge, San Rafael Bridge, and San Francisco Bay in the distance. The 360 degrees views on the top offers an incredible surrounding landscape, A lot of boulders to climb( perfect picturesque). This is one of the most BREATHTAKING views in Bay Area. There’s a short trail to scenic overlook leads a spectacular views, which I’d recommend. All over, it was great cardio both on the way up and down. A good pair of hiking shoes is must, trekking poles are life saver on descent. Mt Tam is the gem( enjoy)!

Great views of San Francisco as you walk on the hilly trails. Close to SF so it’s very accessible for a half day trip.

Hiking trail is the old railroad tracks that took tourists to top of Mt. Tam. When you get to the top you have a beautiful view of the city. Trail is a gradual uphill then downhill all the way home.

What Kevin said, it gets very steep and narrow and jagged, loose rock/footing after Hoo-Kee-Ookee road.

There's some spots to pull along the side of the road but there's not a lot of space
