We went in the middle of summer. Which isn't the best time for bird watching. LOL We just happened to be driving by and stopped to check it out. We actually had a lovely time seeing almost nothing. LOL it was a beautiful summer day and we did see a few birds and some wildlife. But the photos I came away with are stunning. And it was kinda fun being one of only two cars driving through that day. It felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Was gorgeous.

Enjoyed a half day here. Arrived early to see the flocks of waterfowl take flight at sunrise. If you have ever wondered if there are any flocks of cranes, heron or snow geese in New Mexico, there are and they are here! Thousands! There were two "loop" tours to drive (well maintained dirt roads) with viewing platforms and pull-outs. This is a side of New Mexico I had never seen before! Quite a treat!

This was my happy place!!! Love birds and walking around. This was my highlight with visiting to New Mexico. I want to come back and check it out again. Got stuff from the gift shop and the guy working there was super helpful.

This place is perfect for a day trip from Albuquerque, only an hour and a half each way. We visited on 11/12/21 and there are plenty of Sandhill Cranes already settling in. Surely more are on their way still. This place is meant to be a drive through park with a few observation decks here and there. We saw one fairly large deck that extended into the water. Not many places to sit and hang out, which is a shame because it perfect for just sitting and watching the birds. We packed a lunch for a picnic but ended up deciding to grab some green Chile cheeseburgers down the road at Buckhorn (It’s famous and well worth the stop).

The cranes, eagles and All the fowl and wildlife that are highlighted during the fall season are worth every visit you can make but even in the "off" season there is so much to enjoy ...trails in the cooler parts of the day, gift shop and visitor center are so informative. The hospitable and very knowledgeable staff want to help in any way...love love love going to "the bosque" anytime
I was therw Jan 18 - 21 and it was open. The visitor center and the store were closed
5 years ago when we had a similar situation Bosque del Apache was shutdown. I suggest calling them very early in AM. Visitor center may be closed but you would still have an amazing experience. Go a little before dawn or 45 minutes before sunset.
We were there 2 days ago and there were lots of cranes, ducks, some geese. Also saw deer, turkeys, pheasant. Always something to see at this beautiful place.
Yes, but for safety reasons they are not allowed on tour loop.
Just the road beside the main canal. Out and back in either direction, not a great ride, flat, not much to see.
October through March for migrating birds. Sunrise and sunset for photographic splendor. Anytime if you're interested in the solace nature provides.
The Cranes and snow geese leave in February. We saw several different types of duck and some turkey
I. Saw about 2 hogs a lynx 20 young deers also a thousand white ducks one eagle and 500 cranes
