The scenic trail was awesome experience. There are few trials you can try here. Try to hike early in the morning to avoid the heat.

Did the Ladrones Vista Trail which was marvelous. Beautiful desert walk with mild mesa climb, affording 360 degree views.

Went there in the middle of Covid so just walked the two main trails which are very nice and well marked. The park itself is fascinating with the different climates and areas within a short distance. Not sure if we will stop by again but a very nice park and very easy to get to from the highway.

Sevilleta was given its name because the Spanish believed the area resembled Seville, Spain. Basically Sevilleta means little Saville.
No and yes
Yes as above, but interestingly the word manzano does not refer to an apple in the oldtimers vernacular, the sevilleta does not refer to a napkin, and ladrones does mean thieves, because many a famous outlaw hid out there sich as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid. And pinos more aptlly refers to piñones. And to the south you have the little black mountain Turututu, which is actually the top of the volcano 25 miles to the south in the malpais. It is a solid mass of basalt referred to as a basaltic core that was blown all the way to hwy 60 from hwy 308 south of Socorro. That must have been a sight! Lots of rattlesnakes after a spring rain, mucho cuidado.
