This is the absolute worst building I've ever been in. Slowest passport experience possible. The person behind me was talking about wanting to k*ll themself because of how long it was taking. There are 20 windows, and only 1 window was in operation with around ~100 people waiting. Only one or two passport workers but a dozen uniformed security members. It took hours, im horrified. Bathrooms on the second floor have pink stalls which is a nice touch, but good luck finding your way back.

Worse experience!! They must have paid for the positive reviews. They have treated my sister disgustingly. She has waited for hours and returned everyday for the last 4 days trying to get her emergency same day passport. Each day she is lied to and told it will be ready tomorrow. She has bought and changed her plane ticket 4 times in her efforts to get to her sister-in-law funeral. The treatment and unprofessionalism is disgusting!!! They must do better because they are playing with people’s lives.

I am so lucky to have come to this agency. They are extremely efficient, kind, and considerate. I needed my passport ASAP. On Friday I called to book an emergency life and death appointment. There was one appointment available for Monday at 10:30. I took that appointment and got my passport at 3:30 that same day and was able to board my flight that night. Be sure to arrive on time with all the necessary documents.
Thanks! Your review is awaiting moderation.
Currently you cannot get a passport same day without an appointment. Appointments are also currently nearly impossible to get.
Any idea how much??
Yes you have to send in your most recent US passport, see the State Department website "Renew my Passport by Mail" for details.
That depends on if you have immediate travel needs.
This office is for travel within 2 weeks, or travel that requires visas within 4 weeks. Anything less urgent than that, you can sometimes renew by mail (see "Renew my Passport by Mail" on the State Department's website for requirements), or at USPS (in SF the one at 1300 Evans Ave is the only one that doesn't require an appointment) and other "passport acceptance facilities" (e.g. in SF the Treasurer/Tax Collectors office does it, but it's usually booked up).
In certain circumstances, yes, but it's best to call ahead with the situation to make sure.
Check travel.state.gov for current prices since they change.
373 Larkin is best garage.
No, they won’t allow anyone in, even if it’s for an emergency. You must get an appointment. If you specify it’s for an emergency passport and have proof of the emergency, they will transfer you to the Emergency Passport Line. Otherwise you must schedule a regular appointment to get a passport. Don’t give up after your first 20 hang ups, we had to have 2 phones calling back to back to get someone that won’t send us to a dead-end line.
Did you ever find a solution?
That depends on the restrictions of your entry and visitation period. Also this question would be best for immigration or your local consulate, this place only issues passports to US citizens and nations, not visas.
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply/fees.html Gives you fees for the different products and services. You can pay cash, but it has to be exact. They don't give change.
If you were born in Nebraska then you're a US citizen. If you're not a US citizen you can't get a US passport.
If you have a flight call 13 days before with all the details and they will make an appointment for you
How do you get an appointment for a 48 hour passport?
If you get your appointment early, you can get your passport at 3:30pm... at least it's happened that way twice so far this spring.
No, it's impossible to reach them by phone , I tried thousands time 😭
Yes. But it needs to be an emergency and you need an appointment to go in.
There is a photo place on the first floor that is sometimes open. Otherwise there is CVS and other locations to take photos close by.
Yes
How long did it take till you got your passport?
They do offer appointments. I would highly recommend scheduling an appointment to reduce your wait time.
Yes, you may start the process to get your passport updated here.
Yes, but be sure to bring the exact amount as they don’t provide change. They accept cash, checks, debit, and major credit cards.
Get it back from who? Where?
Yes and the entrance to the building is the Golden Gate Ave side, there is paid parking (parking you have to pay for) behind the building at an enterprise lot and another lot right next to enterprise
Google doesn't manage the complaints department. Yes, they are all overworked and overbooked. Keep trying, it worked for me.
Call at 8am est and keep on trying.
I think they won't schedule unless your travel is in 2 weeks.
Sort of. You have to call the national line to book an appointment. When you show up for the appointment you have to show evidence of travel in 5 days along with completed application. If the officer agrees to issue you a passport then you have the option to collect it next day or have it mailed the next day. Info provided as of June 2022.
No they do not.
Hi. Where do you live? I was told the same thing and finally got an appointment. If you must have it and proof of flight confirmation they will take you if you just show up.
Call the phone number 2 weeks before travel date and book an appointment for 5 business days before your travel. Arrive on time with your documents.
We were there today. My son is 14yo and we needed Form DS-3053 completed and notarized and copy of both sides of license or passport from the parent that could not be there.
Yes, you come back at 3-4pm to pick it up the same day
They focus on passports for American citizens, not visas for immigrants.
You'd have to check the travel requirements for the country you're going to visit since testing, masking and other guidelines come from the host government.
I walked in without an appointment. It was difficult to make as n appointment.
Yes by appointment only
I've been told they open up the call center at 5 am and you gotta call multiple times to get an appointment at an agency you want.
If all your forms are valid, then you ought to be able to get your passport(s) around 4pm. That's how it happened when I did it a few months ago
Yes
What did they ask you?
Define non-emergency! Pleasure travel, maybe not possible. You need a confirmation number of an already booked flight. Also, appointments are on a first come first serve basis. Your request needs to be less than 10 (so in fact 9) business days before your flight. The appointment itself will be within 5 days of travel. Call very early in the morning, they are on EST, opening at 8 so 5am PST. Besides all these minor inconveniences, the process was smooth. Got a passport the next day though, not the same day. Went through this just 3 weeks ago, everything should be current.
You might need to purchase your flight first you need proof of travel to obtain a appointment
Hey! If you want an expedited passport, you'll need to call and make an appt. They only take appts if you have a trip within two weeks (tip: book a cheap flight within two weeks one way, they don't care). They book up quickly, but they open up new appts every day, i.e. on the 1st, they open up appts for the 15th. On the 2nd, they open up appts on the 16th. No appts available on the weekends. Call early -- the phone lines open weekdays at 5am PST, 8am EST. Once you've made an appt, they'll give you a conf number and code. Keep those. On the day of your appt, you will need a number of documents and a new photo (they have a document wizard on their website that will determine which documents you need to bring). For your appt, you go thru security and to the 3rd floor. They ask for your conf code, then go through two service windows. They ask for your documents and for you to email your departing flight information. If you have everything, they print your passport same day.
No unless you have an international ticket within 15 days of travel..and be prepare to be there all day..passports are given at 3 30 pm
there are non! You must make appointment and you must have a confirmed flight reservation or they will not give you appointment. GOOD LUCK!
Due to Covid, the passport agency only schedule emergency appointments for which you will need to call atmost 10 days in advance
It's a little tight, in my experience we had the appointment at 9:30 and it was ready next day at 2:30 PM, since you are traveling the same day I think they'll make it faster.
Yes
We sent the passport by Mail
If you do cash they want it to be the exact amount. They also take credit/debit, check and money order.
No walk ins. I waited 1 hr each time I called in for questions and then to book our travel. If you're not flying, you have to have a hotel confirmation showing how many people staying at the hotel matches the amount of passports you're applying for. Also, if you live within 100 miles of the passport agency, be aware you'll have to return the next day to pick up your passport unless you have a flight out the same or next day.
They can but it's a huge hassle, They are rude and very incompetent. Call the 877# and pray for an appointment.
Call them directly, it may take several times before you can connect but it's much quicker than emails or mail
The passport agency are only accepting emergency passport applications for life or death situations with a close family member, and proof is required. Even calling to get an appointment was really difficult. When I went there were tv crews interviewing plenty of disappointed applicants.
I felt that if you called this phone number first you would get a faster response 1-202-647-4000. When you call this number first they transfer you and I felt it was less of a wait time. But just my opinion. Over all I was on hold for an hour an 40 minutes. And thats that I called at 5am pacific time. Washington DC is 3 hours ahead.
I think about $110 + $60 expedite fee is what we paid in person
For an Emergency Passport I called on Monday July 12th to make an appointment. It has to be 72 hours prior to your departure. I called at 5am pacific time finally got my appt after waiting an hour on hold. I got my appt next day. I went to my appt they told me to pick up my passport at 3:30pm.
Starting at midnight and 3 am, the phone system releases appointments two weeks out. Subtract three business days from your flight (appointments have to be within 72 hours) and two weeks from that—then make your calls. In your case, July 27. However, if you have a lot of time on your hands, I recommend using a computer. Open multiple browser windows and click the "search" button like crazy. When an appointment pops up, you have to pounce immediately—they disappear in fractions of a second.
You can use the UC Hastings parking garage but it's pretty expensive, there are probably cheaper options around.
Urgent just means it's coming up soon. I had family vacation as my reason like 5 different times we went there. The most recent one was last month.
Appointments are extremely hard to come by. There is a massive backlog across the country, and the SF Agency hasn't returned to full staffing. Use the online system and refresh constantly. If an appointment materializes, pounce—they vanish instantly. Thousands of people are desperate for appointments, and a cottage industry has developed trading, gifting, and selling them. Several Facebook groups facilitate this—search "Passport Appointments." Walk-ins are currently not permitted unless an immediate family member died or is at risk of dying. There are rumors that this will change as early as the week of July 12.
Ara is partially correct. Building security will let appointment-holders in first, followed by walk-ins. At the passport office on the third floor, all walk-ins are turned away unless an immediate family member has died or is at risk of dying. My condolences if you're in that category—you must bring a document from a physician or hospital as proof. Occasionally, the staff can help investigate if there's been an Agency-created error with an application that's already processing.
Not without an appointment or a legit life or death emergency. I was there today with an appointment and it was the same as my earlier review. Still turning everyone away who didn't have an appointment.
Yes. Because the Independence holiday is observed on Monday, you will still be within 3 days for a same day passport pick up option with an appointment
Appointment needed 100%, no exceptions. The agents there provide excellent service but they need to increase the capacity ASAP!!
Requirements are the same unfortunately. It's extremely hard to get an appointment, I really hope they ramp up operations soon.
They don't allow walk ins as of now. You would have to setup an appointment. Keep trying until you get someone on the phone to setup an appointment.
Its impossible to reach them by thier phone.. I tried thousands time .. it's just give me busy signal
I would try showing up the morning before and get an appointment for the next day. I got my appointment one day before my flight but I had to show proof it was an emergency! Someone was in line trying to get a same day appt. but security told them to come as soon as they open to see if they had openings. If San Fran. isn't too far from you I would try doing that.
My cousin had the same problem, so I ask the employee there when I went to get my passport and they said he can come in and they'll give him passport the same day. Just make sure you take your flight conformation when you go..
You have to call withn 3 or 4 days and try to get an emergency appointment.
My philippine passport will expired on Jan.2023 ,when is the possible time to make an appointment in order to renew my passport.
There's no walk ins, only by appointment. It was hard to get one, I had to check the system online every chance I got. It seems that the system generates around midnight, I was finally able to book an appointment one late night around that time.
You need to make appointment by phone buena suerte maricela the only problem that you need to wait 3 hours to get the passport
Nope you can't. This is the worst place ever. There's this old white security guard that is extremely racist. He tries to talk to me as if I didn't know English and even though I approached him and was already speaking to him in english... not to mention I was born in America.... these guys need to just give us back our tax dollars because on their website it says to give them a call if your trip is within 3 days. Don't waste your time doing that because they will not do anything to help you. We were there because my friend needed to get his passport and the racist white guy kept saying call the 800 number and wouldn't let us talk. When we called the 800 number all the customer service representative did was look online to see if there was anything appointments available at that location, as if we didn't already checked online for appointments before we called... my friend ended up have to cancel his flight and missed his dad's funeral which was in Mexico.
This is for urgent travel with proof of emergency and travel within 3 days. You can try going to a post office and get expedited 4-6 weeks. My sister went last month and had passport in hand in 4 weeks.
We got same problem like u ,but the faster way is to go SF passport office take copy of ur flight tickets and 2 passport size pics. They charge me 185.00 ,and I got my child passport in 4 hours same day..but if u already applied then I don't know wht is the next step.
Hello Tamila, no success for me. They only take appointments and they have no more appointments during next 14 days. If not in a hurry just follow the instructions online on the us government passport site.
You will need to make an appointment for the san francisco office
Call and make an appointment. And if no answer keep trying. Good luck
You can book an appointment online to go to San Francisco
And be on time
Call San Francisco for an appointment and when they don't answer, don't give up. Maybe they can answer that question with info about college
If you lost it and need replacement, make appointment in San Francisco
Make an appointment with San Francisco passports are beening issued
Not at this time. Expedited processing has been halted and you must have an emergency need to schedule an in-person appointment.
https://www.usa.gov/passport This details what documents you should bring in.
It's mainly open for life and death circumstances.
Its open for emergencies appointments only. If you have any life or death emergency contact department of state and setup appointment.
Currently they're open for life or death situations. You can still submit a passport application through an acceptance facility and it will be processed.
The agency is still open for passport needs, but other parts of the building are closed (like the photo place on the 1st floor).
No. It's San Francisco.
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply/fees.html Had a list of fees depending on what you need.
Depending on your needs you have a chance.
Life and death appointments are the only means of visiting this location now.
You would have to bring in documentation proving your son's citizenship such as a birth certificate with the name that is being used. Also if you go to travel.state.gov you can find answers to other documents you will need to bring in order to get your son a passport.
https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply/fees/fee-calculator.html This will help you figure out how much everything is.
Yes
Depending on the circumstances there's a chance they will.
Correct you need proof of travel
If he has proof of travel, citizenship and money. Yes
It depends on your situation and or need
Yes. See my comment.
No.. but it depends on your situation.
Old passport
Maybe you can bring in your marriage certificate
If you aren't traveling within 14 days, you mail the renewal documents, pictures, fee and lords passport in .
What city?
Expired licenses are not acceptable .
Rush orders are usually available for pickup the next day. Make sure you bring all your required documents. Proof of travel Passport Picture Photo ID
If you were born in the US you will need your birth certificate. If not then you'll need your Naturalization Certificate.
Okay thank you
I believe the sf passport agency only issue American passports. You may need to go to the ireland embassy/consulate to get the Ireland passport.
Take all the required documents and go early in the morning. You gotta pay a bit more tho.
Yes you can go without an appointment
Yes you can get one assuming you get into the passport office early in the morning and you show your tickets
It can be completed in a few days, but plan for 5 business days after handing them the required paperwork.
The passport agency will only print out passports for those people traveling within three days. If you are traveling within two weeks, the passport agency will mail you the passport, and an appointment is ideal for that visit. If you have weeks or months, the passport agency won't see you. You'll need to go to the local agency, or mail the forms in.
An apt us better otherwise you can go and wait
If you're driving or using a water crossing (cruise) a passport card will work. If you're flying you need a passport book.
Yes. The agency does its best.
That's the agency's processing fee. By agency, I mean the agency who took your application, not the US gov't. (Though the agency may be part of the US gov't.)
Yes however its not in the same building, the parking facliy us about 300 ft towards the left side
Can I have my travel pasaport the same day i appy?
You can call them or go online (visit their website via the link)
Same day
Just make sure you make and appointment or they wont take you.. Fill out all the paperwork on line first, write small... there will be corrections. You need old passport, birth certificate and bring SSC as well.
About four hr
Fill out all the forms online first make see all t's are crossed all I's are dotted. Then make an appointment at the san Francisco location id do the first appointment available. Pay the fee when you arrive.
You may, but the wait times can be long. It's very similar process to going to the DMV. Review what paperwork you nees beforehand.
