It is! Great for swimming (though I'd be cautious this early in the year). Also, we all jumped off rocks in high school- pretty safe and not too high, but just be aware that it happens.
Important to know, the water is moving extremely fast and is fresh snow melt, so too cold to be in very long without getting hypothermia. (As well as the rocks that are pretty sharp in many spots.) Extreme caution and adult supervision is advised!
There are some spots you can swim, but it's kind of dangerous and swim at your own risk. Water is cold. I wouldn't do it if you aren't a good swimmer. I don't recommend it for middle schoolers. It's a river and there's fast water with some gnarly whitewater below the swimming spots.
I dunno of any safe swimming spots as the sides are really rocky and not beachy. Seen kids jumping in, in the summer though. Probably pretty dangerous right now!
