We were there a week ago on a Sunday night and about 3/4 the campground was empty when we got there about 6pm. By the next morning there was a decent amount of sites filled. It is first come first serve campground.
Went last Tuesday,, Huge area with lots of places to park, albeit a 2 mile rocky drive up that should not be done with a 2 wheel sedan. I would call ahead to be safe but we just drove up and parked. That was mid week. Also the cabins down the road 20 min near the dunes may have availability as well.
