Great spot! They rent out sand boards for $20 a day and I would definitely recommend spending a morning doing that. Camping here was slightly more expensive that traditional rates, but still a great spot! Have good restrooms too (comparatively to what’s available in the wilderness)

We do a lot of camping with scouts. When it comes to proximity to National Parks, camping is either expensive or the sites and amenities are not very good. This place changes that paradigm. The group site (#2) was fantastic with a beautiful panoramic view of the valley. The showers and restrooms were top notch! The staff at the general store was very friendly and accommodating!! You can rent sand boards/sleds for about $20 a day... and you're only 3 miles or so from the entrance of the park. If you head south... there is Zapatas Falls... so there is plenty to do within a short distance. Overall... this was a fantastic campground in a pretty remote area of Colorado. Great place!!!

There are not many choices to camp near the park. Our site was very tight. My husband had to maneuver our camper so the slides would open around the charcoal grill and tree on our site. We maybe had an inch of space when slides opened. Our picnic table was practically sitting on top of our neighbors drain tube and water hook up. Not ideal for bigger campers. We are 40’…..smaller campers should be just fine. The sled we rented was terrible as other reviews said. Literally just sat in the sand. Rent at another location if possible as those sleds went right down the hills no problem. There are gas stations around that rent them before you get into the park. The location to the park and Zapata falls is really nice. We made it work for one night but will not return.

This campground is basically a large gravel and crushed stone parking area with sites along one edge. Each site is edged with a timber fence and has full hookups, a picnic table, and grille. Sites are small but adequate. Each one has a tree to the rear of the site. The interior roads are gravel and crushed stone and wide enough to navigate in any size rig. There is a playground for the kids. Management is nice, checkin was efficient, the park and buildings are well maintained, and there is a great view of the dunes and mountains. It’s only about 5 minutes to the entry to the national park. There is a convenience store and restaurant on site. There are no other grocery stores or restaurants nearby, so stock up before you come. Our only complaint is that the wind seemed to be constant during our stay, which kicked up a lot of dust from the gravel lot and roads. The experience could have been improved if the lot and roads were watered and/or treated to reduce the dust. Still, if we were to return to Great Sand Dunes NP, we’d stay here for the convenience of it’s proximity to the NP.

Yes. We sell gas during business hours. There is no pay at the pump
I'm not sure, but they may be holding back until they see how the virus acts when it warms. That place is very busy through the warm season and may not want to interact with thousands of travelers per day.
I called the number on the web site. No one answer before 8 am.
We used it for showers and toilet and had no problems. I don't think I would drink it though.
We are currently open from 8am-8pm daily. Starting on September 2 we will be open from 8am-7pm. After September 15 we will switch to our off-season hours. Call for hours after September 15. They can vary
All day for ~$21.00!!!🤯 Not even some fool hourly rate!🤪
