If a person is under a commitment to a mental health ward they have the option to allow people to check in on them by calling or coming up to the hospital and asking where is patient so-and-so. If the patient chooses to have no information released about them then even if someone looks them up in the system they may not appear as being a patient. What you can do is contact their family if you have the ability to do so if not you can also try asking for what floor are the departments on and you're trying to visit patient so and so in lieu of asking which department there in. As a couple of options to try.
I would call the hospital and ask or ask the person's family... They might keep that privet depending on the nature of why they're in the mental ward... the family would be your best bet though
