When we have an animal anesthetized for spay/neuter we do things like clean out ears and trim nails if needed, but we don't do these things outside of the time when they are down for surgery. There are groomers and clinics that can provide these services if needed.
They did when I took my dogs in to get fixed. I am not sure if they do outside of that.
