Austin Humane Society is a private nonprofit. Normally you have to set up an appointment for behaivioral and health assesment and they charge a small surrender fee to help cover thier operating expenses. You can drop off strays at the City Animal Center but they arent very picky about adopters. They often do free dog giveaways and adopt to anyone sober enough to fill out an application. Several months ago the local newspaper reported they adopted a dog to some one convicted of animal cruelty and animal neglect. Please spay/neuter ypur cats and dogs. They make babies much faster than we can find good homes for them
