Few quick answers. All people on the case have to be present in order to be processed. Path won't, can't turn anyone needing shelter away. They will make it extremely hard so you'll leave but they HAVE to give you shelter. Let's break that down, they might not put you together but they will give each person some form of shelter be it family or single. Make sure to have all of your paperwork, most importantly proof of the last two years of residency. Again THEY HAVE TO PROVIDE SHELTER, BUT THE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE YOU QUIT SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO. The long waits, the condescending attitudes, the belittlement, the slow stripping away of your dignity is all a psychological design to break your hopes and spirits. You can get a domestic partnership with your "significant other" on 161st Street downstairs in the Supreme Court house. I think it's about $35. Get this done first to avoid wasted time if A) Your S.O. is not on your child's birth certificate. B) You are not Married to your S.O. C) You and your S.O. don't have no type of documents stating your relationship.
