There is also an easy trail on the north side of the highway about .0.7 miles before you get to Solitude. A small stone marks the trailhead. It is steep at first but then levels out after a quarter mile.
Where you want to go is further up the canyon. Solitude Nordic center has snowshoe rentals and there are groomed trails to snowshoe on. Our Cub Scout Pack went last year and they had a blast. You can bring and use your own snowshoes.
