There is a playground next to the zoo. The zoo itself is small but free. The reptile section is the best one in my opinion. Lincoln park zoo in Chicago is free and it offers a lot along with a view of the skyline.
The zoo portion, being free, is not the biggest but does contain various animals including many birds and even a reptile house. Playground is found very close to the zoo. If swimming is in your priority list Phillips park water park is the place you're looking for. Which is found within the same area
