My SSA 1099 has been misplaced, I need a copy for my taxes and I cannot get into my social security on line at this time. Do I need to go directly to the nearest social security office in person, or can I speak to someone over the phone.

I would go directly to the location for that particular matter.I believe it would be most helpful because more than likely they won't be able to help you with that request over the phone and they are more helpful in person!

It's usually a long wait either way, in my experience the phone people aren't very helpful. If you call they can help you with getting online, I've never asked at the office if they can do that, but if you go to the office they may be able to give you the copy. You probably should get your online access fixed either way, it could save you hours of waiting.
