Lasandra is spot on!
Methadone is both a narcotic and used to help drug addicts clean their system, so if the patient is a drug addict they need someone there during the withdrawal period because it can be very scary for the patient especially if their on Methadone mainly because of the side effects of the medication. Also if it's their first time getting this medication you must monitor their reaction to the meds. But remember each patient is different so the reasoning is individualize so this is just a generic reasoning, without the full details of the situation I can only tell you generalized information.
