The Williams Mansion formally known as the Calhoun Mansion was in the movie, North and South Book 1 in 1985. I have never been on an official tour of the house, but have been it on numerous occasions when I worked for Hinson's Millworks years ago. At the time it was owned by one of Charleston's best lawer's. He had us to do some repairs to furnishings and to redo the magnificent sliding Walnut Pocket Doors between the Library and Sitting rooms. These two Pocket doors are eleven foot high, five feet wide, and four inches thick of solid Walnut wood. The approximate weight of each door is around six hundred pounds each. It took us around two weeks to make the repairs on the doors before the filming of North and South fimed at the Mansion. It was used in the movie North and South as the family home of a northern family. Its counter part Southern family's house in the Movie North and South was filmed at the Mansion of Boone Hall Plantation.

Have been to the mansion years ago when it was named Calhoun Mansion. Why did the owner have to rename the mansion? John Calhoun never lived in this mansion but the owner clearly has gone WOKE and feels it necessary to erase our southern history. We won't ever tour the Mansion again by supporting the people who think it necessary to erase the history of this great southern city.

Gorgeous architecture. One of the many reasons to visit this beautiful city. I feel really blessed that I get to live here and walk down and take pictures of these beautiful buildings

The tour cost is $17. My wife and I will be returning on our next trip. A bargain!!
Virtually none, other than when the original owner and builder , George Walton Williams and his wife died in the early 1900s, the house was inherited by one of their daughters ,Sarah, who was married to a grandson ,Patrick,of John C Calhoun( who had been dead since 1850, long before the Mansion was built).Patrick Calhoun apparently changed the name, although he rarely visited or stayed there.. the mansion became a hotel bearing the Calhoun Mansion name shortly thereafter and the name has remained.
Hard to say. Its stunning inside and worth the ticket price but obviously you'd have to contact people running it directly. I'm a tour operator in Savannah and constantly recommended it.
Yes in the rear
