Parking on side streets depends on the day - read the signs. Better chance on upper west side above 87th street. Can be done
Do not rent a car in New York City. It will be to expensive to park and then if you're staying at a hotel they will charge you every time you take it out and repark it. If you use Uber or a taxi (do not use a rickshaw) you will SAVE money.
