Yes, make sure what season it is. A crab net will work, but a crab snare on a big pole with good line is preferred at this pier.
Pacifica Pier is the best crabbing area in the bay area. Crabbing is permitted here without license. Any man made structure in California does not need license or permit. The beach area does require a permit. Stay at the pier. Red crab or rock crab are allowed all year crabbing. Dungeness or commercial crab are seasonal starts in November. Stay away from nets. They used to work many years ago, the only one that works now are the snare. They connect to your fishing pole. Dont ever buy from any store, they are expensive and badly made. Buy from the locals or fishermans from the pier. $5-10 each. Various design but way better than store kind. Make sure to buy crab measuring device its required by law here. Sizes may change, chk with the locals for current requirement. Violations for any crab fishing are in the $Thousands per Crab. Don't try to violate any laws here, park ranger constantly chk bags, coolers, trash cans, cars etc for illegal crabs. Rangers use binoculars far away to chk.
You can have 2 lines per person without license on the pier. But unless you like rock crab, Dungeness is out of season until November.
You don't need permit at the Piers. However, the crabbing season is over. If you want to anyway, you do need crab net, chicken(legs or parts) as bait, and long robe.
I also agree with not using crab nets here. They tend to get snagged. You can get rock crab and red crab year round.
Crab snare using a fishing pole works the best. Do you buy both at the two local bait shops, Rusty hook and Coastside No 2. You don't need a license for fishing or crabbing off the pier
Yeah, you canand probably just a big ass net
