I wanted to adopt a kitten for my boyfriend's 3 year old cat to have some company, he used to have 2 cats but not anymore and his cat is very lonely. Can I adopt the kitty and take him home as a surprise or does he have to be the one to adopt him?

He would have to go with you since he will he the legal caregiver for the kitten. They used to have an adoption certificate in which you pay the adoption fee and the person who receives the certificate picks out the animal. Not sure if that is still around though.

I think it's not a problem if you live with your boyfriend because the address you give is presumably the address the pet will be living because of the documents needed like proof of address.
