I have a 1990 350SDL Mercedes and I KNOW from the owners manual that the oil to use is 20 X 50.
Recently I was able to upgrade ONE YEAR.to a 1991 350SDL. MY QUESTION,,Does it also use the 20 X 50 oil??? There was no owners manual in the vehicle.

For this old car I will recomend not too thin oil with lower viscosity. 10-30 full syntetic

You can use a 5w-40 synthetic or a 10w-40 blend would work as well. 15w-40 would be acceptable as a blend as well. All dependent on the temperature and engine health.
