The rental center is far from luggage point. You better get a carte for your luggage and make the journey together. But once you get there, getting car was easy and fast.
It's best to pick up you guys luggage cause the rental place is further from the luggage claim. You have to ride the train to go to the rental place. We rented from Hertz, it's was fast and easy.
It's is at least 15 min to the rental car location from baggage claim. It would be quite difficult to come back to pick someone up from baggage claim with the rental car. There is a lot of construction and traffic. I just did this two weeks ago. Pick up luggage, go to airtrain platform. Ride to car rental garage. Pick up car and leave the airport.
It takes about 15 minutes between signing the documents and getting the car. So your wife shouldn't have any concerns. Good luck and enjoy your vacation!
