The truest answer is "as long as you need it to be". Everyone is different. This is a maintenance treatment program that has no set end date. The generic recommendation is a minimum of 6 months, however it is important to realize that statistically, the longer someone is continuously engaged in this type of treatment, the less likely they are to relapse once they discontinue treatment. Some people decide to stay in treatment for life (which is fine), however most will discontinue treatment after about 1-2 years.
