Anza-Borrego Desert State Park - All questions

Address: 200 Palm Canyon Dr, Borrego Springs, CA 92004, USA

Unlimited roadside camping is available throughout the park, similar to Mojave National Preserve. Anza-Borrego Desert State Park has fairly specific rules regarding their roadside parking: Do not camp farther than one car length from any dirt or paved road. Do not camp within 100 feet of any water source.

Open camping, per the rules at the park website is allowed INSIDE the park. Open lands around the town of Borrego Springs are private, tresspass and squatting is not ok just for convenience. Please camp in the park. The open camping rules for the park do not mean a free-for all everywhere.

Yes ,basic rules are to pull off the main roads on a existing d dirt road

There are specific campgrounds within the park that allow free "roadside" camping. The roads are dirt and signs at the entrance tell you to choose a spot along the road. In other words they do not want you driving across the desert. There are also campgrounds within the park that offer full hookups.

Plenty of "first come, first serve" campsites close to highway, no 4x4 needed or reservations. Only need to reserve for the nicer sites, primitive ones are free

T Thatcher is correct. But that being said, I have seen many vehicles parked a good distance off the roads with camping gear and ATV's.

Anthony Sicola is correct, but you also cannot roadside camp in protected areas. There will be signs to tell you when you're in those areas however, so keep you're eyes peeled!

Camp or no camp allowed in this Park? Seems like nobody agree with each other here.

Plenty of places to camp around there, i don't think they want you camping on the side of the road though.

T Thatcher | Sep 1, 2018

For the State Park, you will need to reserve a designated campsite. There is no camping or RV-ing on the side of the road.

On s 22 road in park there are dirt side outs that have giant Eucalyptus trees that shade and cool the air around the camping areas. Nice and cool and quiet and peaceful. Came through here on 500 mile mountain bike trip hauling all my camping gear and after camping free a few days, went onto hot spring with spa jets in it next to RV park. It's free. It was awesome.
