I filed a the Australian Passport Renewal Application (PC7) for adult renewals. Info @ https://usa.embassy.gov.au/passport-documents-required

You have to do the online renewal form, print it, get 2 passport photos and take it all with you to the consulate on the day/time of your appointment (you schedule this online after completing the renewal form). It cost a little over $300 (can't remember exactly amount). I did it a few days ago and was very simple and quick. Just make sure to get australian approved passport photos.
