You MUST save your spot in line ONLINE via appointment
If you have the knowledge and you're comfortable doing it you can renew your drivers license online. It's been my experience that I've needed an appointment to do anything involving my driver's license if I go to the DMV. It is possible to get favor and be allowed to go in, but I've been told that you need an appointment to handle your affairs at the D M V.
You do not need an appointment. However in my experience it's best to go with an appointment as it will make your time go faster.
