It's as if Hillsborough County is oblivious to the dire housing crisis Florida residents are experiencing right now. We wanted to remove an older mobile home and replace it with a brand new one same exact size.. simple right? Not even close. The website is awful. We're passed around to 10 different people...everyone telling us different things.. we started the process 6 months ago and have gotten nowhere..

I'm a home Inspector in the bay area. This is by far the worst site to try to search permit records anywhere in the area. The website is overly complicated, having to jump through several different links to try and find a simple roof permit number and date. Having no luck online, I try and call and am greeted by a recording saying to go to a certain website and click on a help button if having problems with the new online permit search. That tells me that they know how confusing their permitting website really is! Following that suggestion didn't help at all. Trying to call back, go through countless choices to try and speak with someone eventually hits a dead end of a recorded voice telling you to send an email. Every other jurisdiction in this area allows you to search relatively easily, but not this convoluted mess. Something that should literally take less than 5 minutes instead has taken me an hour and still no luck. The epitome of gov red tape. Whoever created this online system should fix it or find something else to do.

So much beaurocracy and mismanagement going on in hillsborough county. No matter who you speak with, you're going to get a different answer. No one seems to know what's going on. We submitted our house building permit application and package months ago. I expected a few corrections needed, but as soon as those are satisfied, another 10 corrections needed, and then another 10, so on and so forth. There seems to be no end to the nonsense, which should have been easily addressed initially. There's probably 5 or more different people that have to substantiate their existence by putting in their input. Soooo much beaurocracy. Don't even get me started on the impact fee increase. Double what it was last year. Save yourself and your contractor months of time, money, and aggravation and find buildable property in Polk County.

I applied for a driveway permit back on June 1st, today is July 22nd and I do not have my permit yet. Over 7 weeks just for a driveway permit, this is unbelievable, thanks God I am not building a house in this county otherwise that would take me years. I have been in contact with Mr Martin who its a great person, but unfortunately my documents are not on his hands anymore and it has been passed to the review department, wow on review for this long just because '' they are working from home''. I see why so many people wont waste their time asking for permit, but here I am waiting for a simple approval :-(

I'd like the county to remove a large oak tree from my backyard. The roots are large and growing under my house. I live in a mobile home and it needs to be removed before it causes any more damage. Where do I go to get help??
Better stop in.
Because the County doesn't care
Stop in, they are always very helpful in person. Maybe phone call would work?
That's going to be a question to call in and ask
Yes.
Yes
yes you do. you have to have an electrical and a fire alarm permit.
It depends. Here is a link to the page for permit exemptions: https://www.hillsboroughcounty.org/en/businesses/permits-and-records/permits/work-exempt-from-permits. The best thing to do is call Development Services to verify whether or not your situation requires one.
Development Services, 19th flr County Center
Call them directly 813-252-5600
Send them a registered letter informing them of the need for the inspection. Then call or go to the building department to discuss.
The parking garage or in one of the hundreds of spot along the road, or in one of the many parking lots.
Dont cook the debils food bobby.
You better call them with address etc. It may depend on your zoning. Usually the answer is no but......
Lol gl
The downtown office is open from 8 to 4:30, they do not close for lunch. Try calling the main office number 813-272-5600
At the building dept.
Yes
No
At the permit office.
No
Yes, however technically this needed to be noted at time of issuance. There is usually a form you fill out.
Call them
It's them I'm trying to debate. In my neighborhood more than half the people don't have a solid driveway, yet the city is trying to say I have to have one. I bought the house 5 years ago with no driveway, now they're trying to make me get one,, I think they're wrong.
Or on the side of the road there is parking up and down the roads there.
Yes
So do it
You would need to goto the building dept or call them it is specific to your property location. Usually its 5'
The placard should be at your residence posted. However of you do a general permit search on their website you can look it up in the citizens portal in Acela. There you can print a screen shot of the status of the inspection. Or you can go to down town Tampa and they are on the 19th floor of the County building. Or they have a satellite location in Ruskin.
