I had a similar experience with un-adopting a Australian herder type dog... some dogs need 'jobs,' or something about their earlier life makes them a bad fit for a given household. Don't beat yourself up, it happens. We got a pit bull (I never considered that breed before) soon after and we are going on 5 years of famial happiness. Don't give up on adopting, you'll find the right one!
I had a German shepherd. Are they different? My German shepherd was a most wonderful dog. If a a husky shepherd is different, I'm sorry I can't help.
