I volunteered in the SF bay area, when I was 14, and just being kind, and having some experience with dogs, or cats, is a great help. It's a lot of O-J-T...you go where they need you, and as you progress, you can focus in different things. To walk dogs, you have to just know basic ideas, and you're there for comfort or to help pets, and comfort and assist those looking for a best friend. All of the hard jobs must be filled by trained personnel.
