It is possible to actually walk the allowed routes that take you down in the canyon, not to hard, do-able that can be done without a guide of sorts
I would actually recommend doing it on your own. The shuttle stops are .4-1.7 miles apart and stop frequently along view-points. You hop off of a shuttle, check out the area, and then wait a few minutes for the next shuttle. If you want to walk to the next point, that is also a great option. The viewpoints range from .4-1.7 miles apart. They give you a map that even a child could figure out so it's really stress free.
The free busses will take you to every spot you need to visit. Its an excellent way to see the park. No guides needed. Simply get on and off the bus at each view point. The run about every 15 minutes or so.
is there caming allowed in the canys ? i want to see the stars there at night
We did. Just paid the entrance fee at the gate. Shuttle buses are free. Some roads are private vehicle restricted. Shuttle is very helpful , informative and friendly. We took the orange route. Check their website for more info.
My sister and I viewed the Canyon at the top on various routes on our own BUT my understanding is that guides are recommended for going down into the Canyon- considering the crazy heat I certainly wouldn't go down into the canyon without a guide on my first visit.
Yes, you can.
With the shuttle you can move easily
Absolutely, everything is well marked, and the drive is very easy.
Viewing is easily done without a guide. The rangers are also very helpful.
