It's free basically because it's in the middle of nowhere it's very hot this time of year I don't recommend visiting until mid October. It's a picnic area with pit toilets there is no Campground but you're allowed to Camp along the road to the crater from Highway 66
April, may, regardless, it's going to be hot so be aware of the temperatures around the area. Camping is free
