A pool which is correctly sanitized never has a chlorine smell. When you can smell it, something is wrong. And since this pool is used by many people it has to be chlorinated for sanitary reasons. I would guess it's OK, but if you doubt, stay out.
We've stayed at Academy many times but never used the pool so I'm not sure if they use a chemical (chlorine) or a saline (salt) trlype of water treatment in the pool. However, I can say when we are there we never notice a "chlorine smell" when we are near the pool area. Definitely call hotel to confirm.
If it were me I would feel much more comfortable asking the staff at the front desk about any questions about children
