Went today (4/7) and the weather was absolutely beautiful. Slightly chilly and breezy but perfect for a stroll around the ruins
Summer would NOT be best, it would be hot as hellfire. The best seasons in New Mexico are Spring and Fall. Winter is cold, Dummer is hot. But it is still tolerable. So, it is basically your preference that dictates the best time of year.
New mexico weather is mild and every season provides great days to come out and visit.
Depends if you like crowds and heat. Most people travel during the summer, with kids, nothing against kids, just bringing up a point. Plus, it is New Mexico, and gets hot in the summer. I went in early November of this year. It was a little chilly that morning, but nothing a light jacket couldn't handle. Within 30 minutes of walking the site I was taking off my bennie. I was the only person there, minus the Rangers, for about an hour, when a couple showed up. Ultimately, the decision is based on personal preference, but I would suggest getting there right when they open: by default, less people.
Summer, would be best.
