I have noticed that the Bison usually gather up on the east side of the area at dusk
Just there today (10/1/18) and they were there. Had to hike up the paved path about the distance of a football field. So cool.
They are there just very spotty. Takes some hiking and observing
Be prepared to hike. They aren't hanging around people & cars.
Denver has four pens, they rotate areas. I would try around sunrise or sundown. They are wild animals so they aren't predictable, its not like a zoo.
Well I'm happy to say that we saw the bison tonight. We parked at the overlook parking lot on the north side of 70 on Stapleton Road but there is never any bison at their fancy little lookout thingy (that's where we tried 3x before). So we walked along the fence for about a 1/4 mile and saw them on the south side of the interstate in Genesee Park. Because it was a nice evening we decided to keep walking up to where 40 crosses over I70 and go see them up close. We then followed the Bison Trail along the fence line but they were pretty far back in the park, so we decided to keep following the fence line up Genesee Mountain and do a full circle loop around the park - about 5 miles total. We got to see them from all directions and some even up close. I took a lot of pictures and we had a really nice time. Like some of you have said here... take the time to do some hiking. It's worth it!
I hear ya! I have also been there 3 times. Seen a tall fence and thats about it. I thought about trying earlier in the day.
