Yes, I understand that the old operating concessionaire Curry's company believe they can keep ahwahnee name when they lost bid on concession job for Yosemite Valley from federal government for Yosemite. I understand still in court deciding who owns a native American Indian name. On to why Hetch Hetchy was so important culturally to Native Indians for thousands of years in that area
Trademark dispute involving a lot of red tape and cash, it was easier to rebrand than to keep it
It's really sad but if it makes me happy to refer to the Ahwahnee as the ahwahnee. Poo with naming the street ahwahnee that's insult to injury.
The name was changed the name because of trademark disputes and payments.
The Ahwahnee Hotel and other Yosemite National Park landmarks are in dispute and not for sale. Thus the name change. I agree with Mr. Connolly.
The previous park management company bought the rights to the name Ahwahnee Hotel and wanted a large sum of money for transferring the rights to the new management company, so they decided to change the name rather than pay millions of dollars. Sad situation
Trademark dispute; it's all about the dollars. Sad, really.
