Carissa's answer is correct, the erosion problem she references is actually on our Gazebo Peninsula which is across a small bay from the Lighthouse peninsula. We have had a certified Geologist assess the Lighthouse peninsula and there are a few possible potential fissures across it that could become problematic in the future but we can't be sure without some high tech analysis, like ground penetrating radar or core sample drilling, neither of which this non-profit can afford! Rene is probably thinking about another lighthouse, ours has never been moved. The original 1870 Lighthouse Tower was damaged in the 1906 earthquake, was torn down and the current Lighthouse built to replace it. The current Tower was built in the same location as the first Tower. Thanks for visiting and responding! Mark Hancock Executive Director
Its not quite on a cliff. There is an erosion problem with several areas taped off. The lighthouse area is quite safe for the foreseeable future.
They moved it once already back in the day now it's on a cliff
