I'm going to get a little bit technical here. Lassen is an andesite cone. Typically volcanos of this type are only good for an eruption or two. Lassen has already had two major eruptive cycles from the same vent, so the odds of a third eruption are miniscule. Of course, that entire region is extremely volcanically active, so while Lassen may not erupt again, a new cinder cone could show up at any time.
no need to worry...it has been sleeping for a long time and will give lots of warning if it's ever about to erupt
Most people would call it a 'sleeping' volcano, meaning while you're sleeping, it is too. Volcanoes in the Cascade Range don't erupt without typical preceding events like steam eruptions or series of underground mini-quakes signaling molten lava activity. Volcanologists/seismographs monitor every mountain in the Cascades daily. So the chance of you being curled up in a sleeping bag while camping in the park by an eruption, without notice, is so miniscule, take a chance. It is beautiful here.
It is technically a "sleeping" volcano (as are Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker, and several others ). Not to worry -- they will provide plenty of warning before erupting. Such a beautiful place to visit!!
There are seismographs all around the mountain. They will know in plenty of time. You are safe sleeping over night. Some of us live on the side of Lassen. If we aren't worried about it, you don't need to be worried either
It is dormant i think. Similar to all of the volcanoes in the cascade range. I believe they have earthquake monitors in the park. I would be more worried about visiting Yellowstone than Lassen.
Volcanic eruptions are precluded by warning signs.
Not a immediate threat. Eruption probably a 100 years or more away.
It is not active in the sense that it will erupt over night. Moreover most volcanoes would have some amount of activity to indicate an eruption is imminent.
