Nothing wrong g with the parking. It's just the amount of people attending is high.
The road to the festival is a small two lane country road. It is not able to handle the volume
This is pretty normal for free parking at the Ren Faire
Because you can't just let people go in willy nilly. People deciding not to follow directions slow things down, as do people who don't want to wait causing jams as they try to stuff themselves back in after driving on the shoulder
We have had a unusually high number of visitors over the last two weekends. Our parking staff is continuing to work with the local police department to regulate traffic. To minimize time spent parking and in traffic, we suggest that you try to arrive around 9:30 AM or earlier if possible. Preferred parking opens at 7:30 AM. If you are traveling north via the New York State Thruway, please be aware that RT. 17 traffic has been reduced to one lane through the Town of Sloatsburg due to construction. Please consider the NYS Thruway Exit 16 in Harriman and RT. 17 as an alternate route. Please note: Benjamin Meadow Road via Bramertown Road will be closed on 9/25 & 9/26, and 10/2 & 10/3. If your GPS directs you this way, please disregard it. For best access to the Faire, please follow the posted signs on Rt. 17 and 17A to our parking lots.
Because people suck
Also. There is another, larger quicker and free lot if you dont want to wait for the paid lot close to the entrance to the fair.
The parking staff are not up to the task. They implement pedestrian safety by stopping the cars instead of directing walkers away from the traffic. A lack of training, and "adult" supervision.
There are basically two ways in. One coming in from one direction and the other from the opposite direction on the same road. They are overwhelmed to say the least with this event. For the amount of money they are charging, you'd think they would have the amount of staff needed for such an event. The lines just to get water were equally as frustrating. I'll never go again.
The people parking cars are not very fluent at it. They could park two lines at a time but they chose not to.
