What a cool campground. Very remote. No cell service for miles, which is a blessing when you’re camping. Our site was clean and we had rotating neighbors who were respectful and quiet. We had a doe hang out next to our site for about an hour while we were setting up camp, but no wildlife encounters after that. There are huge bear boxes on each site and reminders to keep your camp clean. The only reason I’m leaving 4 stars is because the bathrooms deep in the woods are really dirty and bare-bones. I understand they’re campground bathrooms, but some hand dryers or paper towels would be appreciated! All of the rangers were very helpful and friendly.

Excellent camping site, especially for beginners. Had our own area with good drainage for the inevitable rain shower. Bathrooms were clean and had fresh toilet paper, soap. Not noisy despite the amount of campsites in close proximity

Stayed in Campsite #83 right on the water. Great campground. No cell reception which isn't a big deal! Right by some new flush toilets. BYO firewood! 🪵

Yes
Yes. It's on Diablo lake, a large beautiful turquoise blue lake with swimming, canooing, paddle boarding I saw several small boats and a guided tour boat on the lake.
I've been going for 28 yrs. There is plenty to do weather you want to hike the true N. Cascades short or long hikes, check out the history of the area by stopping in Newhalem and taking a walk thru the woods there or over at the Gorge just beyond the store as you go out the back exit the road loops back out to 20. There are gardens that live in the hill behind that gorge that you can walk at night and are all lit up. I haven't been to one in a couple of years but Newhalem and Colonial usually have programs in their outdoor amphitheatres on fridays and Saturdays nights but again you will want to look closely at the website for more info. If you don't want to stop in the public areas there are plenty of pull offs along the highway just pull over and take in the scenery~
No, none during peak season.
It's a very popular campground. It gets filled up very quickly, I got a first come first serve site on my third try. I would definitely recommend getting a reservation
It is off for the winter.
You might want to put a call in to them. I'm not exactly sure.
Yes. At some of the sites by the first major restrooms. Im assuming the ones with no fire pits. If i can remember its #'s around 72-75. Bear lockers(free)are also great if you want to put stuff away for a day hike.
Most likely, no. Memorial day weekend probably sold out shortly after reservations opened. Check recreation.gov to find out for sure.
The area is in the National Park and requires a pass for parking. Either a day use pass or the yearly Parks pass. Camping, hiking, kayaking...etc., are all ways to use our National Parks.
I booked through the app recreation.gov and it gives an option to modify your reservation which includes changing your site.
Yup! Atleast at the two sites I stayed at there were.
Looks like your good for 10/11. I just look at their website. Colonial Creek South Campground facility is open during the following season(s): September 24, 2019 - December 31, 2019 (Non-Peak Season)
Should be fine to launch boat here
Ok most burn bans do not affect Colonial Creek Campground as long as the fire is built within the fire rings provided.
You could also take a look on the reserved side when we camp there it seems there is allways no shows and sometimes the rangers post them as available. Good luck
Not at the campground itself. You can buy fire wood back in Newhalem about 10-15 minutes west.
They are all correct no showers but flushing toilets and sinks.
Most likely none of the water side sites would. Its tight on site and you have to walk in.
Marblemount has gas stations but no groceries stores that I am aware of. Concrete has the closest grocery store Red Apple Market and it's 41.1 miles from campground so we pick up all we need before proceeding to campground if coming from the West. Newhalem is the closest town which is about 6 miles away but only has a small store called Skagit General Store that has minimal stuff mostly used by families of Seattle City Lights Employees because the whole town is owned and all homes are employees of Seattle City Lights. This store may not be open much in Winter because road is closed for winter about 4 miles past Colonial Creek Campground.
There might be a way to camp on the trails nearby, but realistically no, this is a site-organized campground. If you have cash, however, it's as easy as walking the open sites and paying with an envelope up at the entrance.
Compared to most campgrounds there is plenty of privacy. Tons of trees. Most spaces are very large and back into more trees. Look at the map and don't pick a site that backs into another site.
Your best bet is to look at the air quality state map for Washington while traveling during the summer months.
Your better off checking the site for reservations. The south side (largest amount of spots in the campground) is reserve only and the north side across hwy 20 is first come first serve~ Happy Camping!
Marble mount is 20 miles east of the campground
Fishing only
