My experience was mixed. The facility was beautiful. The staff members were nice. My father was suffering from dementia and the process of bringing him into the facility was well organized and for a short time it was going fairly well. Then early one morning I received a call from I believe the Nurse (or at least at her behest) telling me my father had to be sent to Overlake hospital to go to their Geriatric Care center because he had been out of control. I went to the hospital. There was no Geriatric Care center, so he was placed in the emergency room. The state changed its rules that morning and then so did all facilities regarding admittance. Because of the new law he was stranded at the hospital and moved onto the oncology floor where the staff was not trained to work with dementia patients. Because of the method of his admittance the State took control because it was considered involuntary admittance even though I had PoA and had accepted the Aegis recommendation. To be fair the people from the state did all they could to help and allowed us to move forward independent of the State, though we did get attorneys involved on his behalf. Hospice became involved to help us work with Aegis. They were stunned and disappointed by Aegis actions. They told Aegis they wanted him back in the Aegis facility. Hospice would provide equipment and nurses to monitor the Aegis staff to ensure they were in compliance. We subsequently learned from the staff the problem that caused the nurse to call was my father throwing a turkey sandwich. The nurse that made the call had previously had her license revoked by the State of California for criminal acts. This process took more than 3 weeks. My dad never made it back, the stress and drain of this situation exacerbated the TIA's the day he was supposed to return he went instead to Evergreen hospice where he passed away the next day.
