I have worked at SUWS of the Carolinas for 18 years now. The 2 main reasons I continue to work here are the dedication of the field staff, managers, directors, and therapists as well as the amazing treatment outcomes we see in our clients and families. Many parents who choose SUWS have tried to help their children in so many ways already such as outpatient therapy, change of school situation, interventions, consequences/rewards, specialists, hospitalizations, etc. and they know they need something different and more impactful. I have personally witnessed so many clients and families connect, heal, grow and learn how to handle life's challenges with more calm confidence through working the program at SUWS.

SUWS of The Carolinas has been an amazing program for my 12 year old son. Bringing my son to a wilderness program was one of the most difficult decisions of my life and, from the very beginning, I felt extremely supported by the teams at SUWS- directors, instructors, therapists, everyone. Blake, the main therapist, made a huge difference and he was the first therapist my son opened up to. Family therapy was key to accompany my daughter and me through the parallel process. The weekly seminars and the parents' workshops were very well organized and allowed me to have a sense of community along the way. I think the strongest endorsement I could give to SUWS is that my son, who arrive there against his will, said to me at graduation that he understood why he needed to be there and he would strongly recommend this program to others with mental health issues. Best investment I have ever done towards our family's growth and strength.

I attended SUWS at 16 years old in August of 2001. I credit it as the single biggest impact in changing the course of my life for the better. When I started school the fall after my return, I went from a C-D student into an A-B student. I graduated High School, College, and Law School. I'm married, have a son, im gainfully employed doing something I love. This morning I put on my blaze orange SUWS hoodie to go on a morning run. When I got home and went to my home office to start my work day I looked at a picture I keep on my wall of my group and counselors from my time at SUWS and it made me want to share my experience. If you're considering whether to send your kid, do it!

honestly it's very expensive for what you get....definitely ruff living out in the bush , learn teamwork for sure or you will struggle badly. counselors do care but kids lie just to get thru....if kid is way out of.control definitely worth it but to expensive. try other methods if possible...
