10/10 would not recommend. They NEVER have availability. They allowed me to do an in take and they STOLE my cheese puffs. I am homeless and they stole the one bag of chips i had to eat for the REST OF THE DAY. NOW IM HOMELESS AND HUNGRY.

I cant give 0 stars so i gave 1. I was there 2 times. They refused to help, i was 7 months pregnant and they wanted me to divorce my husband. It was more of a rehab. How can you look for a job if you have 8 hours of classes to attend. The employees steal and there are more drugs that ran through there than on the streets. Case workers are so overwhelmed they just want to push you out.

Good organization to donate to and/or volunteer for to help men, women, & children.

Kicked me out in 2016 permanently for cussing cause someone stole my phone. Never came back and started looking for odd jobs for a car.. Got it and happy I never went back. Also the bed bug problem is horrifying here. I didn't know what a bed bug was till I came here.

How many bags can you bring ?
I wouldn't even bother going to that place, unless you want to feel like you're in prison....besides that place is under fire with a current scandal concerning their director
Come by tomorrow around 0800 and ask for Victor Johnson and the VIP program
Wrong answer! They available beds everyday. You can go in the morning to get a bed and come back between 2 and 4 pm to check in.
I went through some things in 2015 and ended up staying a short period of time at star hope shelter. I have nothing but love and respect for this place. The staff and people treated me with respect and kindness. My job kinda caused them to have to extend the rules to accommodate me. I support star hope. And I think it's a great place to begin a new start. But, as a reminder, no matter where you go, put GOD first. Also, I just want to say to those who feels like giving up, and to those who has given up. I want you know that if you can reach down and grab a hold to hope, you can pull yourself back up. It's tow things GOD promised us from the beginning of time. Hope & a future. You can lose everything, but if you can hold onto hope, you can have it all. Be blessed. And know that GOD is still large and in charge.

Interesting they normally will take couples but they prefer to have a couple or single person with a child
No waiting list at the moment
Nope
The first 30days, you're locked into the program. People can bring you personal items, bt nobody can jus leave unless you exiting the program.. They got alot of rules here.
Non they're all spiritually based programs to help you grow
I can't answer that but going there you will get sick, I did ,on the the rescue side they don't believe in sanitizer
They wont stop your check but you might not like the star of no hope
Housing assistance available at SEARCH and the Beacon. Also Houston coalition for the homeless
Your good
Check salvation army, the best service for you would be the beacon thu-mon or search. They provide a broad range of services to help. Not shelter though. Check with star of Hope women shelter to get off the street if nothing else is available hubby can stay at the men's til the beacon can help. Use them.
I would call your card provider...itemized statement...call Mastercard.
I am not familiar with the process ☹️
So if youre a single dad who needs help due to drastic hardships and looming depression accompanied by severe stress there's just no help. That's horrible for a dad who is trying to raise his kids alone because that's all they have and i want to be there for my kids. Why is it all so gender baised
There are woman shelters downtown, the Star of Hope is 4 Men Sorry to say...
You can stay as long as you need to stay, if you comply with the house rules.
Yes they can,u need I.D. mainly &S.S.Card...
No one is allowed to use cell phones in the building. Depending on the program he entered, it might be 30 days or longer before he is allowed to make calls.
There is no fee to sleep and eat at the Star of Hope. There are programs to get you back on your feet.
i m a single man 55 years old, where do i need to go to get assistance with a place to stay an meals, please, and at what time should i ll be there, i m on the street at the moment
Unfortunately, the Star of Hope is not set up that way. You can get emergency shelter, food and clothing but you will have to conform to their schedule. This means getting up at 4:30 am and being in the building by the 6:00 pm curfew.
The Star of Hope at 1811 Ruiz is a men's shelter. Males only, aged 19 and older, are allowed to stay at the facility. The Star of Hope does have a facility for women and families. It is located at 2575 Reed Road. You entire family would be allowed to stay at this facility.
What is their street address?
Yes....donations are accepted at the Star of Hope Donation and Distribution Center, located at 2320 Lamar. The Distribution Center is open M - F, 8am to 4pm.
How old is he??does he have kids. Is he coming married? Has he been just released from jail? you said kicked out of what??
The shelter provides 3 meals a day, clothing, showers and a place to sleep. Access to medical care is provided through the Harris County Hospital District, which maintains a clinic within the shelter. In addition, there are programs available for those who want to change their life and get off the streets permanently. These programs provide structure and education. Finally, and most importantly, the shelter provides access to spiritual growth. There is a chapel onsite and worship services take place daily.
The spiritual recovery program has changed my life and relationship with God. It has given me Godly principles from Scripture that i have internalized and practice daily. I have structure and discipline. I have been in positions here that really put my faith to the test and with endurance this drown me closer to Christ, strengthens my faith more so...Amen
I'm not sure the mens shelter is all I have info on
Yes it's called Cornerstone located on Reed Road @288
It's free. To stay weekly you have to be in a program they offer other than that you can stay for the night
They have a place on Reed Road that can help with couples not the Star Of Hope
Yes , Just Let The Shelter Know Upon Entry That You Have A Car Upon Entry , I Use To Be Lead Cook/Chef There. Tell Your Caseworker As Well , They Have GREAT Plans For You And Your Future. May You God Bless But Keep Striving For The Best. Goodnight !!! ..
Star 🌟 of hope bro... That's about the only decent shelter I know of. Or just say you're hurt and spend a few days in the mental hospital (West Oaks)... Very nice, just say you're killing yourself = 1 week stay
Star of Hope MDC does not any designated parking area for clients.
Nice place actually
God loves everyone only religions separate everyone!!!! it's non denominal help church me personally I love the church (God) but not the set up of the shelter, very unsanitary no antibacterial ,soap for the homeless rescue... You will get sick with upper respiratory ...I did ...now there is two more programs with strict rules
As long as you need us. Rules are posted and when you sign app rules are explained and posted in the application as well as on the wall in our facility. We do have Chapel Service and yes you must attend it if you're in the facility
Probably the day before
She do dope?
As long as you know your SS number. O it should not be a problem.
Come to the Centre to find out more. ....Different program's available
Yes, but you will be responsible for your own parking.
Ladies cannot stay here. Men only
Faith is not an issue with Star of hope, if you have a child then you must go to the family facility.
How long is your waking list??
Just go up there at 8am and they will answer all of your questions. Good luck.
Get there in the morning and get a bed ticket...side entrance on Hamilton
I have kids. But at this minute they are with my mother. But will be with me soon. Can I please get some help. I just get to Houston. I come from New Orleans. I'm looking for a new life for myself and my kids. Please call me and help me please
I have not been in the program. I have experienced the Star of Hope and unless the radically changed that will not be an option. The policy is not even a cell phone is allowed. The focus is to help addicts so I'm pretty sure u have absolutely no freedom for outside activity. See a counselor at the Becon or someplace like that. There are places that will give you the freedom you need but I cannot think of them. There is a list somewhere on the internet for services for Houston homeless. With a little effort you can find it. I believe another place is called Search. Beacon is a better option. If you don't know the library has computers and free WiFi access. I will say it's unlikely to get rent free when you work it will be sliding scale minimum rent.
You can go to the salvation army. It's just a bit north on N.Main. If you need the address I can get it for you or you can Google it. Good luck.
How long can I stay
Stay away from that place! Find any other resource before you give in to that place....its not worth it!! Bad news all around!!
I thank God for this place. It helps to build a strong structure in men that have lost their way. Please Keep making a difference.
I wouldn't even dare recommend that place
Not sure I think you can at the women's and children's shelter.
You can go to the facility or call for better results. Thanks in advance.
As long as you can contribute as homeless and sober in their system you will have no problem
They pair you with a counselor and work on what it is you need.
Does star hope allow teen boys to come
Yes u just have to go church services before breakfast, lunch and dinner
Usually just a valid ID
