This is such a beautiful, peaceful place. The staff are wonderful and handle everything with respect and dignity. We were fortunate enough to come upon Mark and Art this week and can't thank them enough for the opportunity to 'reunite' our Mom and Dad upon her interment. Everything about Mt Tahoma National Cemetery speaks to honoring our Veterans in the most respectful way

amazing place to visit, especially on Memorial Day. Visit the welcome office if you're looking up a specific name

This is an amazing location. So beautiful to lay our dear loved ones to rest. The staff & volunteers there are wonderful to work with.

The peaceful place I visit my dad, father-in-law and others I love to recognize, memorize and thank them for serving our country 💟 God bless.

My Father is buried there and my Mother's ashes are with him in the same plot. His inscription is on one side of the headstone and her's is on the other. You can do the same for them.
Yes. And you can also put more stuff, like balloons, mini flags, and what-not.
Yes Call Tahoma for more information ❤️
Call veterans affairs, they can take care of everything
I think the main planning you'll want to do is with your family. Let them know your wishes (that you want to be at Tahoma). The service, plot and marker are covered as a benefit to Veterans and don't take any planning with the cemetery beforehand. Communication with your family is the thing: that you want to be at Tahoma, financial planning for coffin, perhaps what you want on your marker (but your family can make that decision later, too). The cemetery and the funeral homes work together every day. They have the process dialed in and it's pretty seamless. Not really a burden on families, logistically. A great example of when government gets it right. Make sure your family has a copy of your discharge papers. The funeral home will need that in order to work with Tahoma.
You can place them at the bottom of the columbarium in a little gravel area that everyone uses for bigger things like flowers. Its shared space but theres usually plenty of room
Flowers are removed after a time when they cease to look fresh. When they die or are destroyed by weather. The deer will eat the roses and some other flowers and stems will be thrown away as soon as they are noticed
THE Tahoma Natl. Cem. Is listed in the phone book... Special events occur as permitted and on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. CHECK with office/admin. personnel.
Not a lot. All areas have parking nearby
There should be " oversized " parking at the entrance. You could call them to be sure. We did see some RVs parked there for a service & visiting the site.
You will need to contact the Cemetry directly. As I understand, children of deceased military veterans can also be buried there.
They have an out door computer, kind of looks like an ATM & you can look up by name. Also on their website you can look it up and it will show you the location.
Usually your people are in line at the front when you first pull in.
Short answer: yes you can. But, there is an info booth on you way in. They are very helpful and cordial.
Michelle, The crematorium will notify the cemetery. But you can go out to the admin.building And get the paperwork for what you want on the stone
They have a computerized grave locator. You just have to put in the name you are looking for, and it will give you a grave number and section it is in. They have maps with the sections outlined.
At the station where the bathrooms are there is a computer you can use to search locations. Or on a smartphone go to the website for the cemetery and the option is on the website.
I'd call them. Find there number on the web
An honors ceremony often depends on rank and length of service. A basic one will include the playing of Taps and flag folding. Call the cemetery. They'll ask you clarifying questions and get you more definite answers. Best of luck to you.
Call the national cemetery. You cab get ahold of Tahoma National cemetery and they should have the the number
Hi Liz, Sorry for your loss. Our service was May 29th and, as Erika said, there were very few chairs available. There's no limit on number of attendees however social distancing is requested and masks were not required.
If you come on the weekend, you could pull into the drive usually used to line up for services ( just to the right as you enter.) Otherwise, there are wide areas throughout, depending on where she is and how many others are visiting. Hope this helps.
You can request it
You can go online under Nationals cemeteries and follow the prompts or if you go to the cemetery they usually have a computer where you can put in your last name and it will show you your location
Yes. Plastic vases and water also available.
You have to contact the official office personnel. There only few exceptions? Because it's a military cemetery.
Not sure call them!
I'm actually not too sure. I think it would depend on the driver to bring you all the way in and then waiting.
Yes except they don't get the 21 gun salute or Taps being played. The cemetery provides a pavillian for a short memorial service but any minister is provided by the family.
I would call the administration office, they'll have the best answer. My mother was the service member, and while my father preceded her in death we interred them together. The only thing we needed for my Dad was his death certificate.
Bring a copy of his DD-214 to the funeral home. They will coordinate everything thru the VA
I believe it is Infantry Weapon System.
From their website: "Burial in a national cemetery is open to all members of the armed forces who have met a minimum active duty service requirement and were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable. A Veteran's spouse, widow or widower, minor dependent children, and under certain conditions, unmarried adult children with disabilities may also be eligible for burial. Eligible spouses and children may be buried even if they predecease the Veteran. Members of the reserve components of the armed forces who die while on active duty or who die while on training duty, or were eligible for retired pay, may also be eligible for burial. For more information visit our eligibility web page."
both of the services here at Tahoma that I have been to, had 21 gun salutes. I am not sure who you would contact for that. I will take pictures of any info I find here.
When you enter the Cemetary gates you'll see a building (office & restrooms). In the small walkway of the building is a grave locator. The only info you would need is name, date of birth, and date of death and it'll give you the plot number. They also have a map of the place to help you find the location of the plot. I hope this helps.
You should contact the Tahoma cemetery and inquire
My FIL was retired Army. My MIL passed before he did and was placed at Tacoma. When he passed he was put next to her and we were told that my husband and I could have our ashes placed with them if we wanted.
Hi.do you want know where's Cemetery.?or.?
There are 3 committal shelters for services. Half hour services for veterans and dependant services. No other kind of shelter .
They have everyone meet at the main building then all drive up together. I'm sorry for your loss
Artificial flowers will be permitted on graves during periods when their presence will not interfere with grounds maintenance. As a general rule, artificial flowers will be allowed on graves for a period extending 10 days before through 10 days after Easter Sunday and Memorial Day.
11/11 at 11am the vetrerans Day ceremony starts.
In the front three is a scene you can type in the name and it will tell you exactly were to find your loved one
You absolutely can.
K ty... I wanted to come to my visit my mom & dad 2 on Sunday
The cost of services is up to the veteran and his offical paperwork request by the veteran or his family and his DD214 which proves their service to their country which has to be handled for any internment thru St. Louis Vets Office. The funeral home prepares the internment and their services. GRAVE SIDE services are part of the government's and Veterans Affairs office. Volunteers make up by former military members who donate their time handle direction and assist military & civial staff.
The Cemetery is open for paying respects on most holidays. The cemetery has controlled timed gates, but exiting is no problem if they are closed approximatly at Sunset. Sunrise to sunset are hours of the cemetery. OFFICE / Admin hrs monday thru friday except holidays.
18600 SE 240th st, Kent, WA 98042
The cemetery will order a new plaque with both names.
The cemetery schedules every 30 to 40 mins for internment cerimonies. It is best you send the flowers to the mortuary/funeral home addressed to the party/internment. CALL THEM to let them know of your flowers for the final viewing/internment placement. That will go much better for you and the family.
