Really nice park located in the Davis Mountains of West Texas. Easy access to the McDonald Douglas Observatory. The skies are great for astrophotography or just viewing with binoculars. There is abundant wildlife and great bird-watching.

Excellent camping spot, with nice trails. I'd recommend it if you want to have good amenities, great views, and love hiking. You're not exactly "braving it", but it's so much nicer for families and pets this way.

Another great Texas state campground at almost 5,000 feet! Paved roads and sites. We stayed in site 60 with 30A and water. Very quiet and serene. No Verizon, Wifi or TV channels. Restrooms were cleaned daily. We just used this as a stopover on the way to Big Bend NP. Take a couple of hours to visit Ft. Davis National Historic Site; well worth it.

We stayed here for a week in one of the RV sites, not the full hookup sites because they were all booked. There seemed to be some drainage issues with the hoses and tanks possibly due to the RV not being completely level as the ground wasn't level and us not having anything to fix that. Otherwise it was a totally pleasant place to stay. We didn't get to hike many trails but the ones we went on were nice and the bird blinds are pretty good. The scenery was absolutely beautiful, the Skyline drive was a must see.

Yes. My daughter and I drove in and out after dark.
Yes, they are welcome in the park. You cannot take them in any of the buildings though. Just make sure you clean up after them. The
The bike trails have signs marking them.
Skyline Drive in Davis Mtns SP has 360 degree view of night sky. Nature Conservancy Davis Mtns Preserve has open weekend March 13-15. Cabin Meadow would be good for viewing at the Preserve.
IDK. It's better to dress for the weather and have the proper sleeping equipment. A heater of any kind inside a tent is dangerous.
Didn't see any when we were there. Hikers/bikers only.
No. There is a countywide burn ban. Collecting firewood is also banned. Charcoal or propane are OK.
Actually, wifi is available at the campsites and quite good which is rare for TX state parks.
If you plan on going give the park a call first I know thay they have shut down some of the roads around the fires.
It's an open state park. I do not recall any pet restrictions, but plenty of folks in RVs. Will probably need to call on that one.
Water, and power yes. Dump station avaliable. Some TV, some cell/data - but once u ar e there for r/r who cares.
Yes, for more info: https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/davis-mountains
Yes, you will need either a day pass or a Texas State Parks Pass
yes, on leash only. The leash cannot be longer than 6ft.
That's a good question for Google.
The park stores were still closed when we were there and I didn't notice machines. There is a nice small grocery store called Porter's only 3 miles down the road towards Ft. Davis.
It would be best to call the park for that info.
I believe there is calling the park would be your best choice it's been a while since I've been there
Shouldn't be since it is a Texas State Park which is run by Texas Parks and Wildlife instead of a National Park ran by the Bureau of Land Management.
Yes, the park has equestrian day use and primitive equestrian camping (6 sites) at the Limpia Canyon Primitive Area.
No real Jeep adventures to be had in the immediate area. Mostly privately owned ranch land. A couple of hours south in the Terlingua Ranch area, there are plenty.
No not at state park, but yes there is a stable near by. The stars are awesome at the park. Best state park in Tx
Yes they are under a burn ban and high winds warning
No rivers or lakes, but balmorrhea has swimming and the rio grande runs thru parks to the south. San Angelo has a lake but its a few hours away
You are not likely to see any bears. Cook your bacon without fear.
It's very visible & easy to find once you're there: right off 118 (main road through town). Turn at the old rail caboose, which is now an ice cream shop (and worth stopping at too!)
As of 10 Oct. Jeff Davis County IS under a burn ban.
Yes. There are tent and RV sites. The lodge will be closed for the next six months approx for renovations. But, the Black Bear restaurant at the lodge will remain open for breakfast and lunch.
