Good atmosphere, but a lot of seaweed on the shore
Nikki Del Rio
The beach is clean with soft sand. Beautiful.
clay pearson
Biggest beach in key west that we visited.

Cool

Street parking is no longer free, pay kiosks are located along the sidewalk.
Yes you can rent chairs. Paddle boards, kayaks etc..
Might get harrassed by the overpopulated tryannical Monroe County PD for "camping" but i guess it's worth a try.
There isn't a storage, but you can park your car very close on street and keep your valuable stuff there. The beach seems safe though, people just leave their stuff and go in the water.
My daughter was married there last Friday. Very nice.
The anaerobic breakdown of sulfates in the seaweed leads to the production of hydrogen sulfide gas.
This beach is good for swimming but I would suggest you try the Fort Zachary Taylor as that beach was my all time favorite, is like a tropical dream coming true!
We went in May 2019. For my hubby and I to ride double, it was almost $200
We were there march 11-18, beaches were fine. You couldnsee where the trees were still bent a bit and theres obvious damage but the beach areas were absolutely usable and lovely.
They recently closed Geiger Key beach, they being naval police and coast guard. Not sure if it's at the cement barriers it starts or the end of the paved road beyond that but they've closed that off permanently and have already issued several tickets over 200$ each for being behind it. Even tore down the monument that's been there for years with the swing and all. It's gone.
Stinks, literally
If you want but there are plenty of bike racks on the sidewalk.
Yes, I saw few people enjoying with their kayaks.
Go to Ft Zach, not Smathers. Poop smell for a reason. Not cool.
Best to pack or stop somewhere along the way there
$4 ph, 1 hr minimum. Came to $4.20 with tax. $50 for all day. ** Note that the machine only takes cards, no cash.
We stayed at Hilton Garden Key West, reasonable rates, they have guest parking there but it is 15.00 a day.. we drove our vehicle all over the island, you do have to pay for parking everywhere. But also the hotel does have shuttle service to down town to all the shops etc. You can also rent scooters, or electric small vehicles but have still pay to park.. We also did the sunset sail and it was absolutely wonderful also!
Yes
It was really bad when we went in August 2019. Hopefully it has cleared out...the algea. The smell was the worst part.
Not sure if its still there...haven't been back almost 2 years.
This all due to the weather and current of the water which could change daily. Every time I have gone it was clean, you just got there at a unlucky time.
Had beer and no one said anything, but was not obvious about it.
Street parking, no charge, and I believe there is a dirt lot across the street
You can rent lounges and other items at the southern most part of the beach.
No. At least in August.
Yeah, but when we were there there was lots of seeweed along the shore:-(( I didn't want to snorkle in that. We liked Fort Taylor beach more. It is bigger and nicer.
Yes free. Can rent umbrella or seat if you desire. Food trucks nearby. Restroom was gross. Lots of seaweed. Recommend spending approx $4 to go to Ft. Zachary instead. Take your water shoes.
3 miles. 15 minutes by car 1 hour walking
Approximately 1.5 to 2 miles. By bike it is an easy ride and there is also Higgs Beach between. Walking in the heat can be difficult.
