Yeah, but when we were there there was lots of seeweed along the shore:-(( I didn't want to snorkle in that. We liked Fort Taylor beach more. It is bigger and nicer.
You can, but last week (week of June25, 2018) the water was way too still and anyone who broke the surface was treated to a smell that should never be smelled on a beach. The locals told me that it was because of no storms lately to move the water. Just my two cents from my trip
No too much seaweed and that smell is aweful
Yes but the sand is soft abd kind of swampy.
Not the best beach, but I can't help but stop by. Lots of seaweed, just stop by. People watching fun. Hahaha
I've been there several times, so I can say without a doubt....either due to storms or lack of storms (according to the locals, both contribute to the problem) when it comes to Smathers beach, seaweed and the very foul smell that accompanies it is almost always an issue. The very first time I was there the seaweed was minimal, the smell was absent, the water was clear, warm, and just breathtakingly gorgeous. That only lasted one day though 😢
Agree with Josh Banks. We were there the same week. The odor will bring you to your knees and make your eyes water. I was told the sea weed collecting on shore was baking and fermenting in the sun. Just awful.
Yes you can, but there is a lot of seaweed.
Yes, you can. Its very shallow and clear, just like the other beaches.
