Good parking, has pit toilet. No potable water. Access point for the end off section 1 of the Colorado Trail, and the beginning of section 2. There is primitive camping available back down section 1 about 1/4 mile away. The water from the South Platte is pretty tasty after being treated. The CT is an astounding trail.

Segment 2 of the Colorado Trail starting is one of the best late winter/ early spring places to run near Denver. It’s usually dry with limited or no snow and no mud due to the granite.

Heads up Colorado Trail thru-hikers! There is absolutely NO WATER for the next 13 or so miles till you get to the Buffalo Creek Volunteer Fire Station. There is a water spigot on the northeast corner of the building. So camel up, I packed away 5 liters and sucked down almost 4 before I got to Buffalo Creek. Also the privy was lock the night I camped, and there are no camping signs once you cross the Platte River bridge till you start your climb out of the river canyon. If you're thru-hiking, take time to take off your hiking boots and cool your hoofs in the COLD, rushing water. It's accelerating!

Love this trail. I hiked towards Waterton Canyon on Nov 1st, 2017. First 3.5 miles or so was incline but after that it was relatively easy. Great view through out. If you find my photos and review helpful, please give me a thumbs up. Thank you.

Questions & Answers

Is the trail paved? I have a road bike and was wondering if I should even attempt to go or if it was just appropriate for mountain bikes.

The trail is not paved.

Is overnight parking allowed if I wanted to park, hike in and do overnight camping?

I think so. I was there recently and I didn't see any signs saying otherwise
