They call it dirty bird for a reason. The photos are edited to look more brown because I posted them. But I always have a fun time. I’ve connected with God a lot there. Just sitting at the water edge talking to him. Made some big decisions there.

Enjoyed our stay here. We camped for 4 nights in a lake front RV site with full hook ups and 30 amp power. Generally our site was well maintained. The park itself could use some repairs which I’ve accounted for in my rating but I wouldn’t hesitate to come back.

Great trails to hike, and to introduce my little girl to the great outdoors. The State Police Office we meet was super cool, and took some time to show us a good trail for my first timer.

Great place for camping, hiking, biking, horse back riding, boating or fishing. We had a nice time on the lake.

A couple of reasons changed at all state parks. One so others have a chance at the good sites. Another reason was people living at the lake and something about squatter rights.
You can camp for free in undeveloped areas for the most part , this means not in the campgrounds or picnicking areas. Backpack to an unused beach ect and u can camp all u want
Yes! It will accommodate any rv.
In certain parts of the lake, they will charge a day use fee of around $6. If you go to Indian Point area on the Alemeda side of lake, you can swim and picnic for free.
Mr Whigham you purchase them at park office at 13101 Alameda and have the tag number of vehicle you will be hunting in
We've walked the bike trails late at night when camping. My favorite is the trail by South Dam campground. We saw mink, an owl and a beaver as we trekked along the shoreline. We hiked about 3/4 mile from the campground. We didn't see any bikers being close to midnight but lots of bike tire marks.
Yss they do
Yes... if you have a valid fishing license and the fish meet the criteria.
I havnt been asked for a permit when i kayaked
Yes
Don't know for sure, but I never saw an area there that I would think could be used for mudding.
The building for the bathrooms and showers are solid built cinder block construction. They would work for shelter.
Opposite side of town but still only about a 20 min drive depending on witch side of the lake u goto
Show up park find host in am
Only dirt trails on east side by calypso cove
Not yet
I had a great time last weekend
At one time there were a couple of different trails but was up there about 2 weeks ago and the place where you could rent a horse was gone. But did notice 4 or 5 trucks with horse trailers
I am not sure at best all I could find was that hwy 108 was re routed, try off Hwy 9. The articles state it has looped around into Hwy 9.
Roads here are good so no need for and off road vehicle or 4x4.
You can rent a horse 😆 but I don't think they have boats available for rent. I don't remember seeing any other businesses around there that offer boat rentals either. But I haven't been to all of the areas either so I could be wrong.
I don't think lake Thunderbird puts together a show. You can take your own fireworks out there and set them off but it isn't one of the places that actually has a show. There are a ton of places that are having shows though!! I'll put the link down here so you can see all the places that are! I hope it helps! https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.koco.com/amp/article/fourth-of-july-fireworks-shows-celebrations-in-oklahoma/28222031
All parks are 14 day limits , but you can move to another site , or if there not busy they tend to let you extend your stay
Good question I'd have to say sometime between now and when hell freezes over LOL They sure don't seem to be in a hurry
It doesn't cost to go to the hiking trail area.
You drive around and pick a site from several camping sites. The ranger will come around and see your tent and tell you how much for days needed.
Get an ice machine and go buy ice...
You dont have to pay unless you're staying over night so you can use any of the open camping spots grills
Sleeping in your car isn't camping. That's called parking your car and sleeping in it.
No the rangers will fine people that are doing fire works, they have signs as you enter the park
Used to be in the little axe area not sure if it's still there or not
No you cannot there used to be a boat area but its closed now
Yes, and many times while camping we have seen deer at night.
No, but you might call ahead and ask..
Chickadees, titmice and several spieces of woodpecker are common year round. American Crow, Blue Jay, Carolina Wren, Bewick's Wren, Eastern Bluebird, American Robin and Northern Mockingbird are a few of the species that are permanent residences of the lake.,Species that are common are Blue gray Gnatcatcher, Summer Tanager, Baltimore Oriole, Orchard Oriole, Red eyed vireo, indego bunting, and painted bunting are most common.pull up bird watching at Lake Thunderbird online and you can get alot of information about this.
yes
Gates lock at 11 p.
No
Gold Loop should enter from Thunderbird Dam Road, just one mile northeast of the Clear Bay entrance on Highway 9. The trailhead for the Gold Loop is located on the left side of the road. This trail is especially tricky and includes several bypasses, a bridge, a rock drop and dozens of switchbacks. Hope this helps you.
50% of base rate for total disability any thing other you should contact the park ranger
Tent camping is around $14 per tent (adult) with kids tents being free.
You can book ahead (reservations) at all state parks.
Yes, each has a fireplace, grill and there's water access, plus several bathrooms and shower facilities, 1 being a pay which has the locking doors and privacy factor. The rv site are nearby, there's wildlife around its all directly off the lake shore and plenty of fishing opportunities. Also has dumpsters for trash, somewhat limited access to cut down on lots of traffic, park Ranger patrols, a nature center 10 min away along with a really decent grocery store 10 min the other direction. Pet friendly with leash rules
Yes , but no live cutting of course . Also local store out here sell wood if needed fyi.
Has Jan said you're only allowed to stay 2 weeks. Prices ranges from different sights if you call the Lake Thunderbird park they would be able to tell you.
Ive not had very good luck fishing at lake thunderbird. And Ive been going for years.
