Very nice place, friendly people,

Wonderful people. I have a cat through the "Pets heal Vets" program when he got sick I didn't have a way to get him there so they sent someone to pick him up. When I got the bad news and.had to put him to sleep they found a way to get me there so I could say goodbye and be there for him to the end. All the staff was so kind and were very comforting to me. These people truly love animals and it shows. I definitely consider them family.

Everyone is very friendly and knowledgeable for their position.

So many incredible dogs and cats just wanting love and a permanent home 💓

That is a very nice thing to do! You should give them a call directly to ask for specific needs, as these questions go to other Google users and not the shelter. Good luck! Mark thumbs up if this helps!
Doesn't sound accurate. I just copied this directly from the HSHC website: "If your match doesn’t turn out to be the love of your life, our adoption policy requires the animal be returned to the shelter so we can ensure they are safely re-homed. Finding a pet a new home via Craigslist or other advertising outlets often results in a devastating outcome for an animal. Someone else out there is the right match, and we promise not to give up until we’ve found that home."
I believe you have to fill out an adoption application before you can meet any dogs. Check before you go & possibly waste your time. We were just looking for a cat on Saturday & had to have an adoption app turned in first. Awesome facility & staff.
Yes! We can use them for the dogs or the cats, just depending on the size of the blanket.
Yes you can take your dog.
No, they don't do things like that unless the animal is under their care. There is the low cost clinic next door and they may be able to help.
Till 7 and I think it is included in the price of adoption
Call them
Check out their website they are good about posting the animals that are available.
I don't believe they take opened food
That is a great question! I volunteer there and although I am not familiar with there being a section for parakeets they may have a foster program I am not aware of! Definitely call into the shelter to see if/how they could assist you and the parakeets.
Even if you are just going to visit and meet kitties, you will need to fill out an application before visiting, this is so they can also do a background check for everyone [animals included] safety. Just note that sometimes there will be a wait depending on how busy [like sunday mornings]
It varies depending on dog or cat as well as age. Adult cats can be $55 or less (this includes spay/neuter, combo test, microchip, first round of vaccines and more). Check the website for adoption fees, and keep an eye out for special deals and events too!
I would call them directly.
I don't live there any more but I remember a group called Indy Feral that traps, spays and releases cats. If that doesn't work call the Hamilton County Humane Society to ask if they have any programs to assist you. If they don't keep trying. Their are groups out there that can help. Try Facebook as well. Save a Stray is one of them. Hope that helps!
Yes...we sterilized them upon receipt prior to re-using
Store manger and employees
Definitely call them. Only they would positively know the up to date answers, to such questions.
There are forms that can be filled out online for hchs and surrenders. There are times they can take them in and their website has the contact number for the shelter as well to speak to a shelter rep. Their website is www.hamiltonhumane.com.
Doubt it. You surrender ownership and rights to that pet. Don't get a pet if you cannot commit.
They would have to tell you if it's not listed on him profile
That's something you need to call or message & ask them directly. I'm sure there's other things they could volunteer for, that would be ok with a few hours.
Contacting them directly or speaking to a volunteer they will be able to let you know to what they need on donations and if they can take your towels too. Everyone there is great and are very helpful to all customers.
Yes, it opens at noon to the public.
No, they will redonate these.
Follow up on application is very good to do
I apologize, I am unsure of that answer. You may want to make a phone inquiry.
They will accept a cat if it is from Hamilton County from one of the participating cities. You can go to www.hamiltonhumane.com and find out if your city participates & the cat can be accepted.
To surrender a pet to Hamilton county you must live in Hamilton county
You should try calling the shelter and speaking with the medical manager, to see what the best option is.
Unlikely you must prove it.just another reason to get your pet microchiped
At the shelter the cost is covered by the adoption fee, but we don't do it there. The Low Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic next door to the shelter does.
I took pics when I volunteered so don't think it would be an issue, best to call and ask.
Yes, but the hold is only good for one day.
No
Or call and ask. They WILL tell you either way.
Do you have any friends or family in Hamilton county? There are other animal support groups in Indianapolis. Try calling local pets stores and find out which animal agencies "they" donate either money or supplies to. If you have a pure bred or you know the mix ie: lab/pitbull, call both lab and pit bull rescues and see if they have room to take them. CAUTION Always find out euthanasia policies. You could also tell these agencies about your husband and see if there are any foster homes available to help until you or they can find a forever home. Best wishes to you and your husband. I hope he is well soon.
They publish prices, and I can tell you it's 1/3 of the price a Vet charges
Probably not for at least three years or so, depending on how quickly the money can be raised.
This is what is posted on their website for volunteering: FOR THOSE UNDER THE AGE OF 16 (REQUIRED) HSHC Policy states that children 12 to 15 may volunteer when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, but cannot directly interact with the animals due to liability issues. Both the child and parent or legal guardian must fill out an application and attend an orientation. Note: We do not accept volunteers under the age of 12
Yes. Depends on the animal. Age, type, involvement... you would need to talk with your representative when you are at the Humane Society to know what the cost would be of that actual animal or animals you are interested in
16 is the minimum age to handle the dogs/cats. Can volunteer in other areas younger, with adult overseeing.
No, these records are not available on line. You should have received paperwork with all details at time of adoption. If you cannot locate them, you can obtain a copy by contacting them. They will be glad to print or email them to you. You should also be able to obtain rabies vaccine records from your chosen vet, as they are the ones who administered the rabies vaccine, not the Humane Society.
Cat adoptions start at $75, and go down from therebased on their age. This includes microchip, spay/neuter, first round of vaccines, FIV/Feleuk test, 30 days of pet health insurance, check up at local veteranian, small bag of cat/kitten food.
You can view their current list of dogs available for adoption on their website.
The Hamilton County Humane Society is a NO KILL shelter and will only put animals down if there is no other options for the animal and it's better than to see them suffer. We do everything to get our dogs and cats adopted and in loving homes.
No, they are not a boarding facility. They may have referrals for someone or someplace that can help.
In person or by mail
Definitely! You can ask at the front desk. Many colors & styles are available.
The shelter is open every day to the public except Wednesday. They open at noon all other days.
6 months
Don't know what they use them for but assume to care for their pets.
Go to thier website you can find info and submit an application.
Super cheep. But hidden cost if they are not up to date on their vaccines and if they have flees.
I believe it starts at seventy-five dollars and varies due to age and type.
Please edit this so someone can help.
