Horrible experience. Skin cancer diagnosis. All was fine with the biopsy and diagnosis. Dr. Duncanson at first wanted to remove sites in three different appointments...so that would mean four total appointments over the course of 8 weeks. I asked why they could not be all done at once and a nurse told me it was to "reduce the risk of infection", which makes no sense at all. I suspected it was just to be able to charge more with separate visits. I requested them done at once. Dr. D. agreed to two in one appointment and one in another. After the first surgery I had a great deal of pain in one of the removal sites, and called for some additional medication to help with pain. I left a message on the nurse line the morning after the surgery, after a very painful night that Tylenol and Ibuprofen did nothing for. No one returned my call. I called at lunch and spoke to a nurse, who said she would talk to Dr. D. and call me back. I did not hear back from anyone the rest of the day. I called after hours, still in a lot of pain, and spoke to the answering service. They called Dr. D. and then called me back and told me that "Dr. Duncanson does not prescribe narcotics" and I should just try more Ibuprofen and Tylenol. An hour later a nurse called and told me to call the next day if I was still in pain. I asked why, since they would not give me anything to help with the pain. She basically said I'm not sure, but she was sorry I was in pain. I had three days of pain that Tylenol and Ibuprofen did not help with. I was not pill seeking, I almost never take medication. I was just in pain. If the doctor didn't think I should be in pain, minimally, he could have called and asked me to come back in to check on things, to see why I was in so much pain. If he was worried about pill seeking, then he could have prescribed just a few days worth of medication. I called and left a message two days after surgery and asked for an office manager to call me because I wanted to express my concerns. I was told that it usually takes 24-48 hours for a manager to call, but they would put on my request that the call was "urgent". I never received a call. When you call it is almost impossible to speak to someone local. You get sent to a national answering service for scheduling etc. Which is basically why I am posting here, because the office and doctor did not respond to my concerns. I decided to switch dermatologists for removal of the last site and I emailed the records transfer requests and asked them to email me once the transfer was completed. They never emailed. Update: After posting this public review, the office called to listen to my concerns. They said they are changing some practices to improve communication. They said they never received a notice that I wanted to talk to an office manager. They also said that they never received a message that I wanted to be told when my records were transferred (although I wrote that in the email where I attached the records transfer request). They also said it is protocol for all of the doctor's in their office to not remove more than two sites at once due to "patient care" and "reduce the risk of infection", and it has nothing to do with money. I cannot find literature supporting this. Another nurse at their office told me that it was because the surgery time blocks don't allow for more than two. Finally, they said that when I called for pain assistance, the doctor told the nurse within the business day to recommend more Tylenol and Ibuprofen, and that if I was still having pain I should be seen in case of infection. Obviously I was never told this, nor was I contacted until after I called the answering service that evening. I initially posted about concerns over the quality of the suturing, as expressed by the person who removed the sutures and scarring, which I perceive as a result of the way it was sutured. The representative said over the phone (without seeing the scar), that a bumpy scar is normal and should improve with time. I will never go back there, but felt it important to share the update.
